Cyber Monday 2: Return to Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday 2: The Cyber Returns

Don Draper on Cyber Monday

I had no idea there was a Cyber Monday 2. I guess this is something made up by advertisers to get everyone excited about more sales. According to the news, it’s also called “Green Monday” and is considered to be the Monday in December when consumers glance at the calendar with wide eyes and say, “Oh, sh*t! It’s December already?”

I only found out about it when Zazzle sent me an email that said “Cyber Monday is Back!” So, if you’re one of those people who’s really into sequels, it looks like there are some extreme percents off today. If not, go back to your cigarettes and booze and your rational fear of computers.

If You’re Done Shopping for the Day…

If you’re done punching strangers in the face so you can buy a Barbie doll in this season of thanks giving, there’s nothing better to do than to go home, apply pressure to all your wounds and snuggle up with your loving computer to do – yes – more shopping.

Which is why all the internet companies are running deals today. Zazzle is doing the same thing (see it all here). So, if you aren’t all shopped out or you aren’t in the ER, there are some good percents off. I bought a couple mugs 40% off for some relatives. You can also get pillows at that price, which is really good.

This is also one of the best times to buy business cards, oddly. Zazzle has them all 65% off today. I’m a little partial to the marketing business cards for writers. You can get a 100 pack for about $7, which is exactly what I did this time last year.

Wrapped canvas, posters and calendars are a great deal right now, too. Next year, I’m thinking of making a photo collage calendar for a relative. They’re a little tricky to design, so I set up this template at Zazzle’s base price to make it easier (see my instructions lower on the page if you still need help with the tool).

Those are just a few ideas I have for good deals today. See a list of my stores here if you’re looking for a unique gift.

And don’t forget: it’s not a good idea to hurt strangers over a Barbie doll. But it is okay to hurt them for grammatical reasons.

My Funny Christmas Designs on Zazzle

Funny Christmas at Zazzle.com/HaHaHolidays
Here’s an overview of my funny Christmas designs on Zazzle. I had the most fun making the mug (on the right side, above the ‘Fro-Man ornament). The little marshmallows are drowning in hot chocolate! The “Ginger Bread Man” (a redheaded slice of bread) is also one of my all-time favorites. I’d like to write some stories with him as a character. The one in the middle (Merry Elfin Christmas with a bitter elf) sells the best.
In other news, I’ve been revising an old science-fiction manuscript and plan to send it to a few agents this week. I’m nervous about it because I haven’t sent queries for a while — but I would love for this book to be published traditionally, since that’s always been a dream of mine. Out of all the stories I’ve written, this one is my favorite.
Aside from that, I’ve started a new blog on Blogger here. I like WordPress better, but I’m not allowed to show anything here except my own designs. So, I’m going to be using the Blogger blog to show off all kinds of things, from a bunch of designers. Feel free to follow there if you’d like to see more variety! I’ll post there more frequently than I post here, too. I also plan to mix it up with posts made to inspire writers and short tutorials going over the basics of GIMP.
Thanks for stopping by! Zazzle has a lot of coupon discounts leading up to Christmas.

My Zombie T-Shirt is on Zazzle’s Main Page Today

I’m pretty excited about this because I’ve never had a design listed in “Today’s Picks” on the front page. My “I Kill Zombies Old-School” t-shirt is there today (the brown t-shirt on the right): Zazzle Main Page.

Here’s the shirt in my store, too.

Funny Thanksgiving Turkeys

Funny Thanksgiving Turkeys on Zazzle

THANKSGIVING
So far, I only have a couple Thanksgiving designs in my HaHaHolidays Zazzle shop, but I thought I’d go ahead and show them here because I probably won’t get more made this year. Christmas sneaks up too fast afterward, so I’m working on that — plus I’ve been experimenting with patterns and trying to learn new techniques with the free software, GIMP (which is very cool; I’m going to post links to some of my favorite tutorials soon, in case you’ve never tried the program and would like to do that).
Anyway, here is a picture of the Thanksgiving designs. The angry turkey one is pretty straightforward, but the other t-shirt & the card are a little hard to read in this graphic. They both show a mutant creature that is part turkey and part Valentine’s Day heart, wearing a Santa hat and holding up a bottle of champagne. The creature is drunk and is saying, “Happy Thanksgivi-Christma-Valentine’s Day on Whatever Year This Is!”

Zombie & Halloween Designs

Funny Zombies & Halloween on Zazzle
Here are some of my zombie / Halloween – type designs on Zazzle. Halloween is coming up so fast! I’m busy working on Christmas and trying to navigate some website-building sites like Weebly (here’s one I made for my favorite funny holiday designs) and Wix (here’s one I just set up for a mixture of business cards). But so far, I’m not that skilled at promotion. I just figured out what an RSS feed is, and I’m still not sure if I know how to use it. I like to experiment and see what can be done, promotion-wise, though.
Using the free versions of those two sites, Weebly was much simpler to use, and I think I like it best. The Wix templates look cool, and I really can’t complain about a free site, but it’s harder to find / work with the html feature on there. Plus, everything is very touchy when you’re moving it around. But I liked the final result. Both were fun to build, but I’m not sure of how much help they’ll be or whether it’s worth the time to make more — when I could be spending that time designing and writing.
It was fun putting this picture together, too. I especially like the fact that both men are the same guy — it has a creepy clone thing going on. I’ll have to make more of these collections, instead of just posting individual shirts here.
     Well, thanks for stopping by.

Funny T-Shirt Design for Writers

A DESIGN FOR WRITERS

Writing is my greatest passion; I even manage to get some humor published now and then. Because I love to write so much, I thought it would be easy to make writer designs for my Zazzle stores. But I ran into a problem: I don’t want to think about it when I’m designing t-shirts. You see, I make shirts when I’m taking a break from writing. That’s why I’ve only made a handful of designs for writers / authors. One of them has grown fairly popular, though — at least on Facebook and Tumblr — so I thought it was worth listing here. The rest are in the Writers section of my HaHaHolidays store or the Writers section of one of my newest (unorganized) stores.

1. Here’s the most popular version of it. I made this on a whim last fall, after scribbling it in my spiral “idea” notebook. It’s inspired by real life, of course. These are the answers to commonly-asked questions all writers hear when someone finds out you’re a writer.

2. It started selling, and then I heard from a few writers who said the last line wasn’t always true. So, I recently made some alternatives. I like the plain-text design above, but the drawback is that plain-text designs are too easy to copy, so I fancied these up a little. I made a couple notebook designs, and crossed out the word “not” in the last line — for writers who are drunk. Here you go:

And here’s a different version, with a more subtle notebook paper:

It’s available on some other items, too. I like the yellow notebook one on a square button or magnet:

It looks pretty good on a mug, too. I think the drunk one works best there — because you’re in the process of drinking:

And here’s a bag for writers who still aren’t drunk (also available for those who are!):

I made it available on a lot of different products in four categories here. But if you’d like it on a product I haven’t included, send me a message. The message link is now at the very bottom of the HaHaHolidays store.

Next up:  more holiday designs.

And if you like young-adult horror-humor escapist fiction, I’ve made Run for Your Life! .99 through Halloween.

Thanks for stopping by!

Halloween Designs: Zombies and a Blended Family

Here are some more new designs in my HaHaHolidays Zazzle store. These are all zombie ones and a gory “blended family” pun that would be great for Halloween.

I KILL ZOMBIES OLD-SCHOOL

I didn’t draw this one by hand. The elements come from public-domain images. The two vintage-looking people wielding the bat and the axe are from a book I found on Project Gutenberg. I fixed them up and added a zombie silhouette to the middle. Guns and fancy equipment are okay, but nothing is more fun than killing zombies old-school!

SILLY ZOMBIE NOGGIN SHIRT

This one has a silly rhyme and a cartoon picture I doodled of a boy running from zombies. You’d better keep a-joggin’ if ya wanna keep yer noggin! I think it works well on a kids’ shirt. If you would rather make up your own phrase to go with the picture, the text can be customized on this one.

ZOMBIE BUFF

Zombie not weak. Zombie buff! The zombie on this shirt is in great shape – lifting weights that look like brains. Hence the words “Zombie buff.” Of course, the phrase also doubles to mean that you’re a fan of zombies.

ZOMBIE PROFESSOR

A mind is a terrific thing to taste. The grinning professor zombie is holding a brain, giving the thumbs up.

ZOMBIE COLLEGE

The zombie professor came first, and then I used the same slogan for this design. It’s now my bestselling zombie design. Here it is on a shirt and a laptop sleeve:

I COME FROM A BLENDED FAMILY

And here’s a gory pun if you like dark humor. It would be fun to wear around Halloween. It says, “I come from a blended family,” and has a picture of some body parts in a smoothie, complete with eyeball on top.

Halloween Zombie Skeleton Costume T-Shirt

AN UPDATE

Hello! I haven’t updated this blog for a while. I spent the summer adding a few new designs to the HaHaHolidays store, but I mostly focused on my clogging store. As a result, the clogging store now has about 30 designs in it, and its sales have risen steadily over the summer.  In June, I made my funny monster book — Run for Your Life! — available as a Kindle e-book. So, if you like vampires, werewolves, zombies, lots of scared people running and getting stabbed in the forehead with paring knives, check it out!

DESIGNS FOR HALLOWEEN

Last year, I got a late start on Halloween designs. I only had time to make one angry-looking pumpkin before it was all over. So, this year I’ve gotten an earlier start. I’ve added more zombie stuff and a couple more gory designs. Here’s the store category. I hope to add more soon. I also made my first costume shirt — here it is:

ZOMBIE SKELETON COSTUME SHIRT

I had a lot of fun making this because it was hard to figure out. I wanted it to look like the bones were showing through a shredded shirt… without actually drawing the ripped shirt parts, so it will work on whatever color you pick. I figured out how to do it using transparent areas. So, now you can have bloody, decayed-looking zombie bones showing through whatever shirt color you like:

Well, I think this post is long enough. Besides, I have laundry to do. The rest of the zombies will have to wait until the housework is done.
